Studline Prepares to Perform Beyoncé Mashup

As the homecoming pep assembly approaches, 22 dancers prepare vigorously for one of the most anticipated performances of the year: the studline dance. Mid-way through the assembly on Friday, Sept. 30 as well as during the halftime show of the homecoming football game, varsity Knightline will be doing a performance featuring their 11 male “studs.”

“I’m excited to dance for the first time in front of the school,” senior Nic Savala said. “Everyone gets really hyped for it because it’s not every day that you get to see guys on the dance team.”

The boys began practicing for the routine last Sunday night. By the time they perform, they will have had a total of 7 mandatory practices and several other optional practices for the boys who needed extra help. The dance was choreographed and taught by the senior girls on Knightline. The partner section of the dance was taught to the boys by Madison Cliffton and Rachel Ludwig.

“I love teaching the guys because they get so into it and they make it a lot of fun,” senior Madison Cliffton said. “They work so hard and they always do a good job and the crowd gets really involved.”

This year, the performance will consist solely of songs by Beyoncé. The girls on Knightline voted and chose to dedicate the entire performance to her music. In years past, the performance has been a mixture of many different popular songs by a variety of artists. This year the dance will be unique because it will follow a consistent theme.

“We chose Beyoncé because we learned a dance at summer camp that was to a Beyoncé song,” senior Kayla Martinez said. “We really liked it and thought that Beyoncé would be a good theme because her songs are fun to dance to.”

Following this theme, the crowd pleasers at the Powderpuff football game will also be performing Beyoncé songs during their halftime show.
“It’s going to be like a Beyoncé attack this year,” Savala said. “We all wanted to do her songs because she’s the Queen and her songs are easy to get into. I think people are going to like it.”
