The girls swim and dive team made waves in their first meet of the season last Friday. The girls worked hard to be as prepared as possible for their meet which helped lead them to the success they achieved. Not only did they have some newcomers that stepped up to the plate but returning swimmer Joanna Dohrman qualified for state in the 500 free for her first swim meet of the year.

“We have a lot of newer people that are working really hard in the pool,” junior and varsity swim athlete Hannah Miller said. “We also have great returning swimmers like Erin Stock and Joanna Dohrman. I think we’ll see people perform better in meets once the season gets going too.”

The team this year has a great balance of newcomers and returning athletes. For the returning athletes, they have already competed in numerous meets and know how the meets are ran and what to expect. For the newcomers, the first meet seemed daunting and exciting all at once.

“This was my first swim meet and I got to see how everything went and what you’re supposed to do,” junior and varsity swim athlete Megan Crain said. “I think the meet got me more prepared next time because now I know how to start and how meets work.”

Overall the team walked away happy, proud and ready to improve. For their future meets, they are ready to learn from the good and the bad from the first meet to get better and better as a team and as individuals.

“I think the coaches seemed pretty proud of where we were at for our first meet,” Crain said. “They know that we can do better and I think we’ll do even better in our next meet on Friday [12/8]. ”
