The Boys Golf squad ended their season last week, as they concluded the season with a trip to Forest Hills Country Club to compete in districts. The boys are in Class 4 District 3, with Marquette, Lafayette, Howell, Howell Central among other teams in the district.

The Knights finished in eight place out of the 10-team pool, shooting a team score of 398. Joey Key and Zach Askew shot a team best at 24 strokes over-par (96), both finishing 31st individually. The Knights had missed the cut to advance to sectionals, but the young Knight squad took a lot of out of their last official meet of the season.

“Districts showed us how the best putters are the best players,” freshman Joey Key said. “If you can’t make putts, you won’t score good.”

The Knights are a very young team, including 2 freshman on varsity. The Knights have made sure to work with the underclassmen to prep them for their upcoming years on the golf team. Senior captain, Adam Shine has been a big influence on the underclassmen and their development with the game of golf.

“The freshman on varsity have put in the work themselves to be on varsity, but I’ve helped them to just enjoy the game of golf and encourage them to play as much golf in the offseason as they can, because repetition of swinging the golf club is important,” Shine said.

The Knights look to improve dramatically over the summer, with many players new to golf, this offseason will provide the Knights with an opportunity to work on their game.

“I am definitely looking forward to keep improving over the summer and to compete at a higher level my sophomore season,” Key said.
