Skunk

Skunk

When people think of pets, the first thing that comes to many people’s minds are dogs, cats, and even fish. But those are not the only pets people have. Take teacher Yvonne Kehoe for example, she had a really unique pet when she was young.

She had a pet skunk when she was about 10 years old. It was a common Missouri skunk that was very furry with black beady eyes and very short legs. Her name was Chanel (pronounced like the perfume).

Her dad brought it home one day.

“I was thrilled to have it and he brought it home on a dog leash so we could walk it,” Kehoe said.

She said it was very special to her because not many people own pet skunks. It also surprisingly didn’t spray anyone and didn’t do any tricks.

“I remember my sisters being very happy about it cause we all loved animals dad brought home,” Kehoe said.

Kehoe said she and her sister Paulette were most attached to the skunk and she did say there was fear because they did not know it was de-scented at the time.

She does have some advice to anyone who is thinking of getting a pet skunk. She says do not do it.

“It’s a wild animal and deserves to be in the wild,” Kehoe said.

Paulette described the skunk with a white stripe down the back and said it had sweet black shiny eyes. She also said that their dad was most attached to the skunk.

In the end, the family didn’t have too long to get attached to the skunk as it ran away later the night they got it.
