This year’s homeroom was changed to second hour and introduced the idea of creating red and green passes for academic intervention. Homeroom, or Knighttime, changed to second hour due to teachers in the building working at middle schools and then making it back in time for third hour. 

“Honestly, I didn’t notice the difference and so I was told about it and reminded so I don’t see why they changed,” junior Dominik Sronce said. 

Homeroom’s time can be utilized for clubs, homework, catching up on your assignments and more.

“[Homeroom] was fun and quiet and we could do homework,” senior Mckenzie Bland said.

The pass system used on Thursdays allows students to be able to ask for help from their teachers and have time to improve their studies. Teachers can distribute green passes to students who they feel may require some extra help outside the classroom. Students can also ask for these passes to encourage academic independence. However, if a student receives a green pass and does not show up to that teacher’s class during a Thursday homeroom, then they receive a red pass. If a student still doesn’t show up, then they’ll receive a detention. 

“We as a building really believe that it’s important that students learn that they are successful,” Assistant Principal Erin Steep said. “If sometimes that means saying no, you have to do this because we know you need the extra help, that’s where the red pass idea came in. We aren’t going to give up on students or let them choose to fail.”
