The girls basketball team had a successful season going 13-14, but their season came to a close after a loss in the first round of districts to Pattonville at Incarnate Word Academy. Throughout the season, they picked up key victories over Howell and Timberland, and fell short to Central by only one point.
“It was definitely frustrating losing to Central because it came down to one free throw and we had worked really hard that game,” sophomore Addy Jones said. “As a team I think we really performed well, and we just ran out of luck.”
At Francis Howell High’s own pink out game, the knights beat them 63-47, after losing to them at a home game three weeks earlier. This is the first time North has beaten Howell in the last four years.
“I think it really proved to our team that we can keep up with an athletic powerhouse,” Senior Alicia Hunn said. “It also kept us motivated towards the end of our season which I think helped us a lot.”
The girls team participated in the Summit holiday hoops tournament hosted by Rockwood Summit on Dec. 27-29. They competed against schools like Howell, Rockwood Summit and Webster Groves, and ultimately ended up placing third overall in the tournament.
“I think that tournament was a great opportunity for growth,” senior Evie Kraus said. “I feel like we really started to come together as a team during that tournament, which I believe you could see in some of our following games.”
The team’s three seniors that will be graduating, Alicia Hunn, Kendra Swope, and Evie Kraus, have played all four years on varsity being three of the highest scorers since their sophomore year.
“I think the team did really good this season and has improved a lot from the beginning to the end,” senior Kendra Swope said. “One thing I will miss most is the sport in general, I have played it my whole life and I will definitely miss it.”
