On Oct. 20 and Oct.21, Parent Teacher Conferences were hosted in Francis Howell North’s large gym and multi-purpose gym from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Conferences allow teachers to meet one-on-one with parents to discuss a student’s success in their first quarter of school. Parents who are interested in knowing their child’s academic strengths and weaknesses attended Parent Teacher Conferences.
Theresa Maher, who teaches senior lit, speech, debate, and mythology, describes the interaction between parents and teachers at first quarter conferences.
“Usually the teachers give [parents] a background of kids’ behavior and what to expect second quarter,” Maher said.
Final grades, important assignments, and effort can also be discussed between parents and teachers at conferences.
“It’s the most thorough explanation of how your kid is doing,” Maher said.
Parents who attended were only there about an hour. There is a ten minute time limit for parents at each teacher.
Parent Teacher Conferences can be beneficial to parents, so they were encouraged to go. Even students can see the value in parents conferencing with their teachers.
“They keep parents informed on what’s going with their kids in school,” sophomore Jasmine Wahlbrink said.
