Last week on 10/20/10 Apple released information about several new products and about their new version of OS X, OS X Lion. Or as I like to call it, OS X Simba. The main feature that Apple capitalised on for this new operating system was the App Store. Essentially, they are bringing the App Store from their portable products like the iPod and the iPhone and putting them on Mac computers. This will be the main way in which Mac users will obtain other Apps on here as well for basic computer functions. While this definitely simplifies the installation of Apps on Macs, it also gives Apple a vast amount of control over your computer. This is not to say that people will not be able to use the old ways of buying and installing programs. Although, it has been rumored that there will be some mighty fine incentives for app developers to use the app store. This kind of scares me, and reminds me of the book 1984.
