For anyone who can picture what the future might be like we might say that it would be full of glamorous objects, space ships, aliens, and even hyper-drive, but for others they would say it would most likely be like the wild west.
Back in 2002 a T.V show named “Firefly” took this idea of a western-space idea to the next level. The show was based around an ex-military captain by the name of Mal Reynolds (played by Nathan Fillion) who traveled the galaxy together with a rag-tag group of soldiers and convicts who were trying to fight back against an unstoppable force named the “Alliance”.
It was everything you could have imagined, leather-dusters, spurred boots, the occasional western accent, and, of course, revolvers. The unique idea behind this show was that it would be as realistic as possible, yet still science-fiction, for example we have seen movies like “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” who always have crazy battles in space with all sorts of sounds and explosions, but in Firefly there was no sound in space, just how it normally is, so for every scene that took place in space outside of the ship, it was silent.
Even though the series only premiered for a short time, it was still continued on into a movie in 2005 named “Serenity”, which for many fans thought it would be the end of the series, the ending was still left with a more open ending in the event that it would be continued.
Out of all “Firefly” and “Serenity” together both get and 4.5 out of 5 stars.
