On Saint Charles Main Street there is a cute, little shop called ‘Knit and Caboodle’. The owner, Connie Kukal has been in business for almost six years. The store has everything from yarn and knitting supplies to instructional classes.
“There is a renewed interest in knitting. We are finding younger people as well as men are learning to knit now. I’d say there are as many people younger than forty as above forty that attend classes,” Gwen Johnston, a Knit and Caboodle employee said.
The classes include beginning to kit and crochet, sock knitting, cabling and lace, Kool-Aid dying fabrics, and drop spindle spinning.
Knitting is started to revive in recent years. More and more people are getting into the thousand year old art form.
“If you know how to do even a simple design, it’s a great way to make personal Christmas gifts that are also cheap, which is my favorite part,” senior Charlotte Johnston said.
