On Friday, Dec. 17 the Varsity boys basketball team competed in the GAC/Suburban Basketball Challenge, hosted at the Family Arena. Seventeen St. Charles County schools and seventeen St. Louis County suburban schools competed in the tournament on Dec. 17, 18, and 19. The FHN Varsity basketball team went head to head against Lindbergh Highschool on Dec. 17 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets were sold for five dollars.
“I liked it [playing at the Family Arena],” said senior, Daniel Mcgraw, “It was a different atmosphere entirely.”
The boys played a long, hard game. Mcgraw came out as the top scorer for the Varsity team, with ten points, by the end of the game. Junior Braxton Martinez was close behind with eight points. Many of the boys agree that this was an experience they will never forget and they are glad they got to take part in playing in a new place.
“It was cool to play in such a big place,” said junior, Nathan Viehmann, “It was a challenge to play on the new rims.”
Although this was something new and exciting, some of the players like playing back at their home court better.
“I like playing at school better because it’s a smaller space and your fans are a lot closer to you then at the arena,” said McGraw.
Even with the Knights’ hard battling, Lindbergh came out victorious with a score of 44-59, Lindbergh winning.
