We all know the story of The Wizard of Oz, with the Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda the Good Witch, Dorothy, The Wizard, and the other characters. Well, Wicked, by Gregory Maguire is the story of the Wicked Witch of the West. Her given name is Elphaba and this covers everything from her birth past her encounter with Dorothy. This is probably my favorite book, I like how it gives the other side of the story and Gregory Maguire is a very good author. I’ve just finished rereading this book and it is just as good the second time, the third time, and the fourth time. Also, Wicked was put on Broadway and has been very successful. Idina Menzel played Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth played Glinda. I had the opportunity to see it and was very impressed, although there were some big differences between the play and the book. Gregory has written other books, including Son of a Witch and Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister. Check it out, it is definitely worth your while!
