Francis Howell North hosted their annual Speech Tournament Feb. 15. The tournament took place in various rooms throughout the school building. This tournament started at 3:30 p.m. and ended around 7:00 p.m.
“I’m really excited about this speech tournament because we’re hosting this one,” said sophomore Smitha Milli.
This specific Speech Tournament showcased various different speech categories. Prose reading, duet improvisation, dramatic interpretation, poetry, and creative original are just a few of the categories competed in. Freshmen, Matt Fennel, performed dramatic interpretation while senior, Servara Hasanova, competed in prose reading. The speech and debate team is growing rapidly with new members.
“I feel like our Speech and Debate team is expanding which is great,” said Milli.
The more people who join the more the team gets recognized and gets to compete. The team competes at least once a month at various schools. Mrs. Maher and other Speech and Debate members have high hopes for their team.
“Everyone on the team is good. The team does their research well and are very dedicated,” said junior, Lisa Saville.
The next Speech and Debate competition will be held this weekend Feb. 18 and 19 at Marquette High school.
