Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith is a love story between Stephan Salvatore and Elena Gilbert, with the oh-so-familiar twist of Stephan being a vampire. Now you might be saying, “Hey! They copied Twilight!” but worry not, because Vampire Diaries came out first in 1991, while Twilight came out in 2005. The Vampire Diaries are actually very good. While yes you can draw comparisons between it and the Twilight saga they are really different. Both series have a vampire-human relationship, werewolves, and very old vampires who conspire to kill the main characters at some point or another. With dopplegangers, demon twins, and a rivalry between brothers, Vampire Diaries has many more twists and turns that will make you never want to put it down. Now Vampire Diaries has been made into a TV show which I watch regularly. However, the TV show is almost nothing like the books yet still a good show. If you want to read the books and also watch the show don’t worry, the show doesn’t give anything away for you, but I would like to say that the books are much better in my opinion. You should definitely check it out!
