Six seconds are left on the clock.
A loud roar comes from the stands. Every tenth of a second the roaring increases. After finding an opening to get a basket, Raines rushes through for a layup.
Four seconds left.
Raines tosses up the ball with two seconds left. It goes in. End of fourth quarter, the Knights and Bulldogs are tied 49-49.
As overtime begins, the Knights play good defense by not letting South score at all but one free throw. As four, long, anticipating minutes go by, the score board changes, Knights 54- Bulldogs 50. The Knights take a win and head to the District Championship for the first time in over 10 years.
“I was really happy,” Senior Clint Toedtmann said. “You know when Coach [Bill] Moyer is excited and isn’t yelling, you played a good game.”
The Knights will take on the Zumwalt North Panthers this Friday at 7 pm at Zumwalt East for the District Championship. If they win, then they will be District Champions and continue their journey to State.
“I’m confident we can win,” Toedtmann said. “They say this will be the biggest game in North history in the past decade.”
