Volunteer Knights is hosting its annual Blood Drive for the students of FHN on March 4 in the big gym. Volunteer Knights has been preparing for the Blood Drive by gathering donations from local businesses to give as prizes, and they have been making posters advertising the event, as well as trying to convince students to give blood.
“Students come down during their classes and register and give blood,” Volunteer Knights secretary Kelli-Ann Corrao said. “They go through a series of tests to make sure they are eligible to donate, and then the Volunteer Knights members make sure they’re comfortable.”
The Volunteer Knights members hope to help the community by collecting blood that will be used by people who need blood transfusions. This Blood Drive helps the Red Cross – an organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, etc. – collect blood for ill or injured people. The donations really make a difference in people’s lives, so the Volunteer Knights members make sure that the student donors are well-supplied with what they need to give.
“We give them food,” junior Volunteer Knight Danielle Meyer said. “We give them a bunch of food: chips, cookies, fruit, and water.”
