Francis Howell North’s band practices harder and longer than many students realize. Students not only practice in class everyday with Mr. Moorman, they also do independent practicing as well. Each student can practice after school or at home as much as they choose. It all depends on how much they want to put into it.
Senior, Stephanie Blanchard, plays the alto saxophone. She practices 2-3 times a week outside of class.
“Music is my thing and I like doing what I love with people I love,” Blanchard said.
Senior, Josh Eckert, plays the trombone for band. He participated at the last event band had, the Solo and Ensemble Concert. Students performed alone and in groups and were critiqued and given advice.
“I think we are improving, but we have a way to go,” said Eckert.
There are seven other seniors that make up the band but every grade works together. Junior, Alex Hamrick, plays the french horn for band. She has been in band for three years.
“I think we are doing pretty well,” Hamrick said.
Band is practicing hard for their next event later this year. Everyone seems pretty confident for this event.
“I think we will do well because we chose good music to play and we have a good group,” Blanchard said.
