The SETI, Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, telescopes have been powered down this week after they discovered that they are flat broke. This, to me at least, is extremely disappointing. I do realize that their mission may not be the most important to the government at this moment, but the astronomers there have recently found many planets that they could now be studying but will be unable to.
The dishes will be sitting idly by while we try and fix our economy, and all the while other intelligent life could be contacting us from the stars. And yes there most likely is other life on some planet on one of billions of billions of solar systems within millions of galaxies in the universe. However, it is unlikely that we run into any of them ever especially with the world’s current outlook on space. It would be unfortunate if we missed our only chance.
