FHN’s marching band will be going to their last competition of the school year in Cincinnati on May 6.
“It’s a good learning experience,” Senior Jenni Wyandt said. “The judges don’t know our band from anyone else’s, so they can give very accurate criticism.”
For two of the seniors going on this trip, May 6 means more than just a band competition; it means AP testing. That particular Friday afternoon is the AP European History exam.
“I think it’s an unfortunate coincidence,” European History teacher Zachary Fettig said. “But it’s not the school’s fault. It just puts a lot of undue stress on the students.”
The test consists of four hours of multiple choice questions and three essays, but the seniors don’t seem to be too worried about it.
“It’s going to be a long drive up there, so it won’t be too bad,” Wyandt said. “It’ll be about nine hours before we even get there. I’ll probably just sleep on the way.”
Despite the circumstances, all of the band members are looking forward to this trip. For many Seniors, it will be a last time to hang out with the kids in band.
“It’ll be fun to go on a last trip with band before my senior year is finally over,” Wyandt said.
