You know what grinds my gears? Profile pictures taken in bathroom mirrors.
There’s nothing that annoys me more than the classic camera-in-the-shot approach to your default picture for your social media page.
This terrible fad started in the “Myspace” era when our ironic, middle school selves needed an image to boast how beautiful we were. So why not take a picture in the convenience of our bathroom mirror?
Well if you’re trying to look good, a camera-in-the-shot or covering up half of your face isn’t that beautiful, especially when you don’t have the decency crop it to prevent the center of focus from being the camera itself. It’s less a picture of you but a picture of your camera and yourself in the background. Also, you have a mirror in front of you. Use the mirror to look at the back of the camera and take a picture of you, not your camera.
