Since Albert Pujols started dominating in St. Louis, the Cardinals have been an elite team in the MLB. When Pujols doesn’t excel, the team struggles to stay in contention in the NL Central. On other hand, when he is playing at his best, the Cardinals look like a top team in the League. I think if the Cardinals let him leave town now the team will fall.
Through the first 10 games of the season, Albert was batting only .143 with one home run and a team record of 4-6. Even with the slow start, Pujols has seemed to get out of the slump bringing the team with him up to a 17-14 record and first in the Central. I think getting off to a slow start this season was a good thing because it shows how hard it will be for the Cardinals to win without him and how much their success relies on his production.
Overall, I think the front office of the Cardinals needs to buck up and offer Pujols what he wants along with what he deserves after this season. I think Pujols is definitely the face of the franchise and if he leaves town, so does the heart and soul of Cardinal baseball.
