With his black tux, white dress shirt, and black bow tie in their best conditions, 2011 graduate Jon Davis made his way into the ballroom at the St. Charles Convention Center for his senior prom. He didn’t know it when he walked in the room, but by the time he left, he would be the 2011 Prom King.
“I think Jon got on the ballot because he is sweet guy and very friendly,” fellow court member Brooke Oostendorp said.
Not only did Jon ‘s presence on the ballot affect him and the students of FHN, it affected the staff as well.
“It said a lot for the students at this school to recognize a young man with disabilities as a valued member of their school,” Lisa Pentecost said.
The reaction to Jon’s win was overwhelming support. Many were moved deeply by the outcome of the voting.
“I was excited because he is a good guy and deserves it,” Junior Jeremey Shell said “People around me were crying of joy and excitement.”
While the other nominees on court were disappointed to have lost, they were still happy to witness history. Many were honored just to be able to witness the crowning.
“I loved seeing Jon crowned, his face lit up and you could tell he was so happy,” Oostendorp said.
