Every club needs a sponsor, every team needs a coach, and every group needs a leader. Band director Jeffery Moorman is all of these in one form or another.
Moorman has been with Francis Howell North since the 08’-09’ school year as the director and teacher of all the band classes as well as the marching band director, and the director of the winter drum line.
He is very passionate about music and always wants to see the very best out of the students he teaches.“It’s very frustrating when I’m trying to conduct a piece as best I can, and you aren’t trying” is one of his more well known motivational speeches.
He is also known for his use of analogies to describe how a piece of music should sound, and more times than not, his attempts to improvise an analogy are hilarious. “Imagine yourself rocking a baby to sleep, and then in the next measure you throw the baby against a wall! And finally you scoop it back up and begin rocking it to sleep again” is his most memorable improvised analogy.
Don’t let the bad analogies fool you though. Jeff Moorman is a great director and an even better teacher.
