The FHN Varsity boy’s Soccer team played the Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs on Saturday, September 17. The final score was 5-1 in favor of Fort Zumwalt South.
The Knights gave up 3 goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half and another before the half ended.
“The first shot took a weird bounce off of our keeper’s shoulder,” head coach Larry Scheller said. “We covered it well but it was really just a fluke. The second shot was just a really nice ball by the other team. The other two [first half goals by South] I honestly don’t remember.”
There were some positives in this game however.
“I thought the entire second half was a positive,” Scheller said. “We made runs like we were supposed to. But the poor first half put us under for the entire game.”
The players even noticed a lack of communication between the players on the field.
“We weren’t communicating enough out there,” Keegan Fouch, forward, said. “We need to be more organized as a team.”
Each part of the team had it’s bright moments on the field and some not so bright moments.
“I think we need to work more as a unit,” Coach Scheller said. “Every part of the team looked good at points and at others looked bad.”
Coach Scheller is already looking forward to his next meeting with the Bulldogs.
“They worked a lot harder than us in the first half,” Scheller said. “They got us on our heels from the beginning and we need to match their intensity next time.”
