Heart pumping, muscles pulsing, water rushing. Senior Patrick Fountain zooms through the water as fast as he can, trying to beat the clock. This is what he lives for. Fountain competes on two swim teams- North’s in the fall and a year round team with the Rec-Plex. Fountain recently received the Scholastic All American award.On Dec 2, an envelope from the USA Swimming organization came in the mail for Fountain. It contained a letter congratulating him on receiving the Scholastic All American award, along with a certificate and copies.”I think it defiantly help me get the attention of college couches in the recruiting process for college swimming,” Fountain said. “I think it will also look good on college resumes.”To qualify for this award, swimmers must meet the Junior National qualifying time, hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and be in the top 150 in the US for an event.
“It took a lot of time management skills because I had to work on the swimming portion every day and keep all my work and homework up.” Fountain said.
After years of hard work, several weeks full of long nights in the water, and competition after competition, all of Fountain’s hard work has defiantly paid off.
“He deserves it,” Biology teacher Steve Kelly, said. “He works very hard, is very enthusiastic, and always helps others.”
