While most students returned from winter break ready for schedule changes and new classes, some members of FHN’s drama club came ready for a trip to Springfield. They came packed and prepared for the annual Thespian Conference taking place at Southwest Missouri State University.
“My favorite part is being down there and seeing everybody enjoy the workshops and get a lot out of them,” drama teacher Jeff Tandler said.
Over the three days of their trip, the students will attend workshops presented by professional actors to expand their acting experience. Some of the classes offered include dance and improvisation.
“This is my second time, and I’m expecting to take a little more of dance class and also improv classes,” senior Tyler Faltisek said.
This trip provides real-life experience for the students. They get to talk to professionals and learn about how theater works. In addition to expanding their knowledge, students can make connections and watch productions.
“I think this is a good experience because you get to go and learn lots about theater and all aspects of it, like crew or acting,” sophomore Rain Northrop said. This is her second year attending the conference. “I hope to have fun, maybe make some new friends, and learn some more.”
