The North Street Coffeehouse, which usually takes place in February, is not happening this year. The librarians decided not to host the Coffeehouse in order to spend time and money on other library projects, including a new website, eBooks and charging stations. These changes are part of FHSD’s five-year plan to update the libraries.
“I’m excited because I’m looking forward to some exciting new changes around here,” Gunnell said. “I think the students are going to like what we are doing.” However, some students, including senior Darryenne Small, reacted negatively to the Coffeehouse being canceled. In last year’s Coffeehouse, Small read her own poetry. This year, she was already practicing a musical routine with junior Laura Tran when she heard Coffeehouse isn’t happening.
“I died a little on the inside because I was looking forward to doing it,” Small said. “I feel slightly angry.”
