As an avid reader of novels, I decided to try something different with Erik Larson’s “In the Garden of Beast.” This book tells the true story of U.S. ambassador to Germany William Dodd and his family. The Dodds arrive in Germany at the start of Hitler’s regime, and they are witnesses to the horrors that unfold.
While this book is full of compelling history seen from an unusual perspective, I was bored by it. I found the characters hard to keep track of and the climatic points far between; however, this book is perfect for someone who enjoys nonfiction.
