“It seems a lot more efficient,” senior Danielle Meyer said. “I feel like we’re accomplishing more than we did last year at this time.”
This season’s changes include more home meets, new coaches, improved strategies, a more organized practice schedule, and new equipment. The new coaches this season are Iliyan Chamou, Katie Orr, Greg Gaia and Jenelle Louis. These coaches joined the team to replace the distance and jump coaches.
“The new coaches are really good for the team; they all seem really dedicated, and they look like they know what they are doing,” junior Chad Conaty said. “Hopefully they work the team really hard.”
Another change this year is more home meets. Last year, only one meet was held at North. This year, three meets have taken place so far at FHN. The next and last home meet is the JV girls meet on April 16.
With these changes, the track team hopes to reach their goals of winning all four levels of conference, including JV boys and girls and Varsity boys and girls. Other goals are getting all of the track athletes to run in a meet and have as many athletes place at Sectionals and State as possible.
“I feel like a student can develop as not only an athlete, but as a person, and when you leave, the values that you are going to learn will help you later in life,” coach Greg Hennenfent said. “I am trying to give them what my coach gave me in high school and college and give them the experience they cannot get in any other sport.”
