Students eagerly waiting for inflatables and hot dogs were sorely disappointed as they heard the intercom state that the KOE picnic was cancelled due to harsh weather conditions.
“It was the same kind of feeling like when they cancelled the car crash simulation,” junior Morgan O’Niell said. “I feel bad for the seniors.”
The day had not started out promising either. The clouds were dark and low as KOE set up for the picnic. Things cleared up between 3rd to 4th hours, but it was merely the calm before the storm.
“Around 9:30 the dark, cloudy overcast left and it was warm and sunny for a while. Then around 10:15, storm clouds came over us, and we started to see lightning and hearing thunder.” Nicole Piatchek, a senior KOE member, recalls the roller-coaster weather they saw while setting up.
Even with the not-so-picnic-friendly weather, KOE was still uncertain about what they were going to do until the last minute cancellation.
“Before they cancelled, we were all running around, setting up and jumping on the inflatables,” Piatcheck said. “Then Dr. Jones moved all the KOE students to the big gym until they made a decision.”
The possible make-up event for the KOE picnic is ice cream served at lunches on May 9.
