For the first time, the students and staff of FHN can send kisses to a senior of their choice. Hershey Kisses that is. With “Kiss a Senior Goodbye,” students can send a small bag of Hershey Kisses and a letter to the senior. Over 200 kisses will be delivered May 18 during first hour.
“We really wanted to do something new that no other class had done before,” senior class president Sarah Teson said. “We chose to do this because seniors leaving are such a big deal, and so many of the seniors have so many underclassmen friends, and it was a way for them to get a formal goodbye in.”
This idea came about when Teson was researching fundraiser ideas on the Internet. When she came across a school doing a similar activity, she decided that it would be a good way to say goodbye to all of the seniors.
“It’s nice to give some warm, heartfelt messages goodbye to our seniors,” senior class sponsor Lorraine Smith said. “A chance for parents to write a nice little note to their kid.”
Many students also participated in “Kiss a Senior Goodbye.” While Senior Week is usually reserved for seniors only, underclassmen had the chance to participate by sending a kiss. Junior Abigail Hoffman thought the idea was great and wants to see it implemented in future years.
“I think it’s really cool that we’re able to say our last goodbye to them,” Hoffman said. “I would send one to just let them know that I’m really sad that they’re leaving and just thank them for everything they’ve done for me.”
