FHN student Christina DeSalvo was nearly in tears Wednesday afternoon. Tears of joy. The annual Media Now STL summer journalism workshop took place at Lindenwood University starting Monday June 25, and ending Wednesday afternoon. DeSalvo attended the multimedia class at camp, and was able to take a field trip to the Delmar Loop, in St. Louis, as well as enjoy the other activities and projects that Director and FHN teacher Aaron Manfull and the other camp sponsors had planned.
“I’m really ecstatic I got to even come,” DeSalvo said. “I was sponsored to come here, so I definitely got lucky.”
Christina showed some of the most advanced and professional work at Media Now and for that reason, she received a $7000 scholarship from Lindenwood University to use at a college of her choice. Two other students at the camp received scholarships, one for $5000 and another for $6000, both were awarded to students who showed the most potential and professionality that many journalists work to achieve. Christina made many at Media Now from North very proud. She was also shocked and honored herself.
“I can barely breathe, I’m still shaking,” said DeSalvo. “I keep looking down at the scholarship to make sure it’s real!”
