To get excited for this years homecoming dance, A Knight in New York, students have a full week to participate in spirit days. The spirit days this week are Matching Monday, Tropical Tuesday, Decade Wednesday/Junior and Senior Powderpuff, Black and Gold Day/Senior Toga Day on Thursday, and Class Colors on Friday. The spirit days were chosen at meetings held by StuCo before and after school. Those who showed up at the meetings gave their suggestions and they were then voted on.
As in past years, togas must follow the rules of the 7Bs. Boys wearing togas must have a shirt under their toga or they will be sent to the nurse to put one on. Seniors in search of fabric can look at craft stores like JoAnn’s fabric and craft store or Hancock fabrics. There are also many tutorials on how to make a toga on YouTube and one on fhntoday.com. For Tropical Tuesday students should deck out in leis and swimsuits; for Decades Day, make sure to raid parent’s old clothes.
“I’m most looking forward to Toga Day,” senior Julia Carney said. “I’ve seen the seniors do it since my freshman year and I couldn’t wait to do it myself.”
Spirit days are fun for both students and staff members to get involved in.
“They get everyone pumped for the pep assembly and homecoming,” StuCo cabinet member Zach Ksiazek said, “and to show FHN pride.”
For this spirit week StuCo chose to differentiate from others by incorporating different spirit days and changing up the names.
“This sets it apart from other spirit weeks because then people will still be excited to dress up,” StuCo cabinet member Ashlynn Laspe said.
