On Oct. 29, basketball players gathered in both the small gym and large gym for basketball tryouts this year.
Girls’ basketball has received new coaching: Varsity got a new assistant coach, Coach Hahn; JV and Freshman both received new head coaches, Coach Lot and Coach Brady.
“I think the season will go really well with the new coaches, we are all really close already,” Junior Madison Gillam said.
Boys’ basketball is also under a new coaching staff. Varsity is now being coached by Coach Davis and JV is being coached by Coach Kane.
“I am really excited for this season, we have some really good players trying out, and a lot of great power,” Senior Kyle Lemons said.
During tryouts today boys were in the small gym, and girls were in the large gym.
“During tryouts we ran a lot of drills and worked on defense, and even more conditioning,” Gillam said.
Players have been preparing for months for tryouts in hopes of making the team.
“Over the summer I practiced everyday to try to get better. I played with friends just running constantly trying new drills and other things to make me that much better,” Lemons said.
This season has showed a decrease in the amount of girls trying out, the usual 50-60 girls have now dropped to 40.
“There are not that many girls trying out, but there are a lot of really talented and dedicated girls out there so I’m not worried about it,” Gillam said.
The players for both girls and boys have high hopes for the season.
“I am definitely hoping for a winning season, and to make it to the final four in state,” Senior Callen Hall said.
