15 weeks of hard work and pain and a summer full of training leads up to this half hour race that will make all of their hard work worthwhile. Four varsity cross country runners are heading to Jefferson City for state to run on Saturday, Nov 3.
“Going to state is a big goal for every serious cross country runner, this has been my dream since
For Chac running in state is more than just a meet. He hopes to run in college at Mizzou or at a D1 school. Doing his best in state this year and next
year will help him to get there. His main goal is to make the top 100 and beat his person record.
Qualifying for state last year has put also has put a lot of stress on Alexis Happe. Coming from a family of top notch runners Happe has been training for this for awhile.
“Making it to state last year has just made me want try hard and to make it again,” Happe said.
Junior Jillian Fields is going to state for the first time. After watching Happe run the course last year, she is well aware of the difficulty of the course. She hopes to run the race in 21 minutes and to be in the top 100 to finish. In order to make it to state she too had to make a lot of sacrifices.
“We all had to be super healthy, give up soda, and pretty much our social life so we would be well rested,” Fields said.
Dominique Meyer has been to state for 3 different sports: cross country, track, and diving. Although going to state is nothing new for her, she has worked really hard and is very excited.
“We have told them to do their best and have fun with it,” Beth Phillips, cross country coach said.
