On Nov. 28 freshman mentors had a meeting over the upcoming mentor day they will have with their freshmen groups.
Mentors meet once a month during homeroom with the following homeroom they go and meet with their freshmen and go over with them what they discussed from the meeting.
“This is my first year sponsoring the mentors.”Stephanie Johnson said, “So Kate Greer, the Dean, has been working with me and we have tweaked things from last year a little bit to make them go more along with guidance.”
During the meeting they went over what the mentors need to talk with their freshmen about next week. They plan to go over gossip and rumors. Also things like final exams, the exam schedule and how to get exemptions from exams. Along with a small celebration for behavioral improvement.
“I hope [the mentors make] the freshmen feel a sense of belonging here,”Johnson said, “And that they have a connection with somebody.”
The mentors are meant to be peers the freshman can go to and ask questions and learn things about high school that are different from middle school. The goal for having mentors is to help the freshmen make a smooth transition.
“I really like the mentors because they help me with high school.” Kaleb bell said, “They are someone I can go to and talk besides a teacher.”
