Two sophomores, Angie Barlos and Ashley Jenkins, represented North in the Scholar Bowl competition held at Francis Howell High on November 27 as a team. Normally, teams are made up of three or four students. With the overpowering competition from the other schools, the odds were not in their favor. Answering questions ranging from math equations to American history to pop culture, the girls try to battle the opposing school. But they were not match.
“It feels pretty awesome when I know the answer to a question,” Barlos said. “But sometimes the other team just gets to the buzzer faster.”
North’s other team, which consisted of four members, were in the same boat; winning neither of the 2 rounds. Both teams are finding the positive in their first tournament of the year.
“It was really fun tonight,” first-time team member and senior Matthew Bries said. “It was also a great learning experience for me.”
