The JV and Varsity Knightline dance teams competed in the Lindbergh High School Invitational in St. Louis on December 1st. Pitted against 70 other teams from the midwest, both FHN groups came out with awards.
JV won 3rd place in the Pom category and 1st in Jazz, along with an Outstanding Choreography award. Varsity took 5th place in their Jazz category and 1st in Kick.
“We were just shooting for the best,” senior Kelly Gannon said. “We were confident, and it showed- we got a first place, and we were very happy with that.”
Not only does the team see the competition’s results as a source of pride, but also as a learning opportunity. They will be facing many of the same teams again at State and National competitions in Febuary, where they hope to continue their success.
“We pay attention to who does what, and how everybody looks,” coach Tammy Rokita said. “It very much helps you improve, helps you get ready for some bigger competitions.”
The performance that won Varsity its 1st place can be seen this Thursday and Friday, as Knightline will be performing it at the Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball openers.
“It’s exciting to see what the girls can do,’ Rokita said. “Both teams have a lot of potential still, and they’re definitely working hard enough to achieve this year.”
