On Dec. 5 the Varsity wrestling team had a meet at St. Charles West. The only two teams in the meet were FHN and SCW. FHN came away with most of the wins in the matches but ending up losing because they had four empty spots.
“I am pretty happy with our performance but since we had four empty spots we were not able to pull out the win,” Head coach Harold Ritchie said.
The empty four spots mean that they did not have wrestlers fitting that weight class. On each Varsity team there are different weight classes varying from 106 pounds to 285 pounds. There are a total of 14 weight classes and the knights were not able to fill four of those, causing them to lose the match.
“We did pretty decent, but there is still a lot of stuff we need to improve on,” junior Danny Goggin said.
The team believes that they are best on their feet and have quick pins and takedowns but they are still trying to improve on every aspect of their game in each practice. Some extra things they are working on are wrestling on the bottom and setting up for different takedowns on their feet.
“So far the season has started off a little rough but it has improved,” Goggin said.
n their first meet they had only one win, then received sixth place in their tournament.
