On Jan. 9th North competed against Francis Howell and lost 12-33. Howell took 10 out of the 14 matches. North had five open spots where kids did not make weight on the Varsity roster which led to North’s downfall.
“We had half our normal team,” Varsity wrestler Tyler Smith said after his 6-4 win against Howell’s Mason Mitchell.
In the nine matches North was in, four of them were won by North.
Sam Ritchie faced Howell’s Nick McGhee and managed to pin him after only two rounds early on in the night.
Later in the night Jeremiah Reed took a major, or a win of eight or more, versus Howell’s Jacob Behr.
Reed won the match 8-0.
After which, Jacob Behr faced Chad Moore which led to Moore’s pin of Behr in two rounds.
North hopes to rebound Friday at their next tournament.
“We are a very motivated team in general and that really helps us out,” said Smith.
