After school on Jan. 15 and 16 over 50 hopeful actors and actresses piled into the auditorium for their shot at a chance to be in the spring musical.
The musical will be based off of the Disney movie High School Musical. The movie is about a group of high school students who find their true passion for music through unlikely events. The lead roles will be played by senior Matt Miller as Troy and freshman Marisa Myers as Gabriella.
“I am really happy with the outcome of the auditions, we have some really good vocalists and actors,” Miller said
The actors had to prepare a monologue and sing one of three High School Musical songs including: “Breaking Free,” “What I’ve Been Looking for,” and “We’re All In This Together.”
“I prepared for a week, just sitting down at my piano singing the songs over and over again, and I wrote my own original monologue the night before auditions,” junior Michael Kuhl said. Kuhl will be playing the role of Chad in the musical.
Day one of auditions was for anyone who wanted to audition, day two was for the auditioners who found out they had a callback. During callbacks the remaining actors had to do a variety of tasks from cold reads of the script, to improvisations to see how well you can think on your feet.
“I was extremely happy with my audition, I did not think I had that in me,” Kuhl said.
The cast will start rehearsals Tuesday, Jan. 22. Rehearsals will be everyday after school excluding Friday until 4 p.m. Sophomore Stone Birkner is very excited to start preparing for the musical.
“I’m most looking forward to getting to know all the new names and having a really good time trying to make the show awesome,” Birkner said. “I just can’t wait to see how this whole thing plays out.”
