On Jan. 15, the Varsity girls basketball team went up against FZW Jaguars.
“We started out strong.” post Kaitlin Isbell said.
The first quarter began with the possession of the ball going back and forth between the Knights and the Jaguars, which resulted in a 16-15 lead giving the Knights a slight lead to start of the second quarter. As the second quarter began, Jaguar number 24 unsuccessfully attempted a two pointer. However, it resulted in Jaguar number 23 getting the rebound and putting her team ahead by one point. Lady Knight Madison Gillam shot two free throws after she was fouled and managed to make both. The game had become closer than before. If Madison wouldn’t had made both free throws the half wouldn’t have ended a 31-31 tie.
“I’m happy with our teams performance in the first half, but in the second half we came out with an attitude that we were already going to win” Austine Pauley.
The third quarter began with both teams battling it out for the win yet again. The Knights had many chances but victory started to slip away as the third quarter ended with 39-49 lead for the Jaguars.
“If I could go back I would do more offensively and try to get the whole team too stay strong defensively in the 3rd.” Kaitlin said.
The final quarter started and just as it did in the previous quarters both teams had put themselves in the position to score multiple baskets, at this point in the game it was just a matter of who could get the ball in. Within five minutes of the fourth quarter Lady Knight, Austine Pauley was given two free throws and managed to net both. Though FHN pushed for the win the end result was not in their favor.
“We just needed to keep working together in the last quarter.” guard Jessica Moceri “We just needed to keep working together in the last quarter.”
The final score was 46-60 leaving their record at 7-9.
