After he graduates, sophomore Clayton Kohler aspires to run from South Carolina to California in 60 days.
To do this he would have to run 45 miles a day. That’s over 300 miles a week, and this will all be without any days to rest. His runs will be split up into two runs per day, a 25-mile run in the morning and a 20-mile run at night. He would have trainers following him and meeting up with him throughout the runs to check on him.
“I want to do this run for my cousin who passed away due to cerebral palsy when he was 20,” Kohler said. “I want to do it to try and raise money and bring attention to the disease and maybe help others who have it.”
However, there are still problems to overcome before Kohler can start the race, the most serious of which is that he will need sponsors. Sponsors would provide Kohler with the money to buy running shoes, food, and water, he will also need it to pay for gas for the trainers. So far he will be sponsored by Nike and a local running place named the Running Center, but he will need more if he wants to make the run a reality.
“I think Clayton can get the sponsors,” sophomore and teammate Timothy Bries said. “I run with him a lot and he has a lot of talent so he won’t have to worry about the run being a big challenge.”
