Speech and Debate officers Smitha Milli and John Hallemeier competed alongside 12 other speech and debate members in a Jefferson City tournament Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, held at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
Hallemeier competed in the category Humorous Interpretation, in which he qualified for semifinals, as well as finals, with his piece “Disney Mom Group Therapy.” After competing in the final round, the competitors took the stage in the cafeteria of the school to receive their spots. Hallemeier won first place.

Milli entered in Lincoln Douglas debate, as well as Duo Interpretation with her partner, Zoey Lawson. In debate, Milli competed in 7 rounds under the topic “The United States ought to guarantee universal health care for its citizens”. Milli won 6 of the 7 rounds, and placed first overall in the Lincoln Douglas category.
