Feb. 5 StuCo will host its annual Winter Warm-Up from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m below North’s greenhouse in the bottom parking lot. This year, DJs Mason and Remy from 93.7 The Bull will come out to help StuCo collect donated clothing for the Crisis Nursery. In addition, those who donate clothing will receive $1 off the price of the ticket for the North basketball game against Timberland that night.
“Mason and Remy are definitely going to make it fun this year because they’re funny,” senior and StuCo Cabinet member Krista Burris said.
Burris is the one who got Mason and Remy to agree to host this event with StuCo. She tweeted Remy and asked if he could come to the 2012 Homecoming tailgate. He was at the Jason Aldean concert that night and was not able to make it; however, he agreed to host Winter Warm-Up with Mason.
“They’re going to play music, DJ, and freeze for a reason with us,” Burris said.
The Weather Channel has forecasted temperatures to be between 40 and 50 degrees during the event. StuCo members will, in tradition, dress in their summer clothes until people donate warm clothes for them to wear at the event. The idea is for StuCo to represent the the people the clothes are going toward.
“The funny thing about the Winter Warm-Up is we’re always worried it’s going to be too warm,” StuCo sponsor Jani Wilkens said.
For those who do get cold during the event, there will be a fire pit with hot dogs and marshmallows for students to roast.
“It’s fun to get to spend a lot of time with a lot of cool people and it’s for a good cause,” senior and StuCo Vice President Ashley Flerlage said.
