For the second year in a row, sophomore Dominique Meyer qualified for state
“I feel confident in my coaches, know what they’re doing, and their corrections help me,” Meyer said.
Meyer ended state placed seventh overall. She made to the eleventh round which was the last round; an improvement over her not placing at all and making it to the fifth round last year.
“Going into this year I was more of an underdog. People didn’t expect me to do this well, and it’s been a huge motivation,” Meyer said.
Meyer placed lower than she was seated going into the competition, going from third, to seventh.
“I ended up placing lower than I expected, but it was still fun. I did the best I could,” Meyer said.
Meyer performed eleven dives total at state, one for each round. Each dive would contribute to overall scores for each diver.
“It wasn’t my best day, but I made it to state, and that’s satisfactory,” Meyer said.
Meyer plans on learning more difficult dives in order to compete for a higher maximum score next year with on average more tucks, pikes, and turns than she performed this year.
“ As my second year going to state in diving, this year has overall been a bigger success. I’ve done better than I had expected, and I don’t stop after Winter ends so I’ll be ready for next season, and I’m hoping to do much better,” Meyer said.
