The annual North Street Coffeehouse was scheduled to take place Feb. 20, and Feb. 21, but took place instead on Monday, Feb. 25, and continued on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Thursday and Friday’s snow days delayed the production. Due to a snow day contingency plan put in place by the Learning Commons, all english classes that were supposed to attend were still able to do so.
“I think the snow day really just gave the performers more time to prepare“ librarian Tara Willen said.
Performers included Matt Miller’s band Under The Arch, German Teacher Anne “Frau” Mcpartland, Spanish Teacher Brian Santos among other individual or group performers. Performances ranged from poetry, to singing, to instrumental pieces, and artistic work. The main focus of Coffeehouse is to highlight individual artistic talents throughout the school.
“Being able to sing for people is awesome. All of my friends told me that I could sing well, and that I should sign up, so I did,“ performer Elisabeth Condon said.
The Learning Commons took back sponsorship of Coffeehouse from StuCo, who took charge of the production last year, while the Learning Commons was renovating and upgrading its technology. Attendees were offered Coffee, or hot chocolate and cookies. The performances lasted all day, only breaking for 4c lunch. If some of the performances were skipped one hour because of time restraints, they had an opportunity to perform during the following hour.
“I’ve been in [Under the Arch] for about a year, and coffeehouse seemed like the perfect place to show off the new song we’ve been working on. Being able to perform with your friends just makes the whole day very fun,” performer Jake Boshears said.
