This year’s Prom Fashion Show took place on Feb. 27. Junior class delegates had planned and organized the 7 p.m. show for two months. The show featured multiple Prom dresses and suits from local boutiques and shops: Cache, Wedding Gallery, Deb, David’s Bridal, and Savvi Formal Wear. The stores offered dresses and suits to 25 senior and junior girls and 10 senior and junior boys.
“I thought all the dresses were beautiful,” junior model Kate Millburn said. “Everyone looked really good.”
The show started with junior class sponsor Marissa Cohen thanking the stores that gave formal wear for the show and places around the area that donated items for raffle baskets. In addition to baskets, 18 attendance prizes were given out during the show.
“The point of the attendance prizes is to reward those who came to support our models,” junior class secretary Adriana Condren said. “The raffle baskets are fun and helps us raise money for Prom.”
After emcees Caitlyn Gardner and Morgan Tanksley came out to give away six attendance prizes and introduce all escorts and models. To the audience’s surprise, four FHN staff members participated as well: Katie Greer, Darlene Jones, Andrew Downs, and Mike Janes.
“It was surprising to see who the special guests were. I wasn’t expecting it to be any of them,” audience member Madison Gillam said. “It was cool to see them all dressed up, though.”
Several of the models and escorts participated in an entertainment and talent portion of the show. Senior models Rachel Eckert, Hannah Mason, Emily Carlisle, Jenna Friedman, and junior model Kelsey McIlroy all participated in a square dance.
“We work at Texas Roadhouse and thought it’d be fun,” Eckert said. “It turned out better than I expected it to.”
After the entertainment and talent came to an end, Gardner and Tanksley announced the 20 winners of raffle baskets. There was a wide variety of baskets to be won, including a tanning package and a candy and snack pack.
“I think raffles were a good idea. They raised money and some people were pretty excited when they heard their number called,” senior escort Gabe Rosas said.
The show ended with a crowning of the Prom Fashion Show King and Queen. The king ended up to be Mike Janes, and the queen Darlene Jones.
“I thought it was pretty cool since it’s Dr. Jones’ last year as the principal,” junior escort Andrew Halaney said.
