Band students will perform at North for the first time in 2013 this Friday, March 1. For some, this is their first time ever. While this may lead to high tension or anxiety, the annual Ensemble Concert is simply a test run.
“It’s kind of an icebreaker,” senior Nathan Compton said. “You get onstage, see what you are doing, and kind of get out your nerves before the actual competitions.”
The format of the concert contributes to a more relaxed feel than the competitions. Ensemble groups of three to six students will perform one at a time in the auditorium for parents and fellow students. Another factor that will make the concert easier for band students is the option that some had to choose their music this year.
“It’s more comfortable because you can pick what you want to play,” junior Samantha Oelklaus said. “I’m much more confident and relaxed going in this year.”
While the band has been recently focused on the concert, the collective effort has been in preparation for the upcoming competition on March 2.
“I’m looking forward to [the rest of the season],” Compton said. “We have a strong group, and potential to do well in some of our competitions this year.”
