Francis Howell North hosted St. Charles West for a game in the Troy Classic tournament at C&H on March 15. After starting pitcher Tyler Stevenson gave up two first inning runs, the Knights had the bases loaded in their bottom half of the 1st inning. Hits by Cole Donaldson and Brandon Declue brought in 4 total, and two errors later in that inning scored one more run. In the bottom of the 2nd, with the bases loaded, Brandon Declue hit an inside-the-park grand slam since the right fielder lost the ball in the lights and the ball landed behind him, and then rolled to the wall. The score after two full innings was 12-2. In the bottom of the 5th, sophomore Steven Deckard launched a home run to deep left field to send the Knights home with a win, with the ten run mercy rule. The final score was 15-5. “The game against Saint Charles West was a great way to get all the kinks out. We came out firing with an explosive offense and never looked back. It was awesome watching Steven Deckard in his first big league game send us home with a home run”, said senior Jeremy Warden. Photos by Matt Krieg.
